Opinion: Looking for something cool. You are at the right place.
Storm Front is the first of the supposedly 23-24 book long “The Dresden Files” series (god knows how many there would be), not that I’m complaining. A great start to one of the intense fantasy series ever written. I have read the series till the latest book and am starting again as I review the individual books. Even though I’m reading for the second time, the book hasn’t lost its charm. Jim Butcher is truly a master craftsman.
I agree, the first few books are not as good as the rest of the books, but hey! No one can become an expert from the word GO, right? You can actually feel the series maturing and Jim Butcher’s writing evolve as you go through the books. And yeah, the first few books are completely worth investing your time to relish the rest of the books (also, the first few books aren’t bad either. It’s just that the later books gloriously overshadow the first few.)
There’s a lot of world building that goes in this book to set the stage, which feel natural and believable. The characters building done in this book provides the best example for budding writers to follow. And believe me when I say, you will not regret investing your time in any of these characters.

Storyline (Spoilers): Harry Dresden, the only wizard to have advertised in the yellow pages. He’s pulled into the investigation of a bizarre double murder as a consultant for Chicago police department. Harry has to pull all the strings he has and much more to find the person behind the murders to solve the case for his friend Karrin Murphy, from the Chicago PD. The white council, a powerful organization of wizards, puts Harry under the Doom of Damocles, suspecting his involvement in the murders. Harry now has to prove his innocence, save his butt, stop further murders, and catch the murderer.
